EVERYONE who can SING!

FOR OPEN CALL AUDITIONS: Singers are encouraged to sing to a music track easily found by searching the karaoke version on iTunes. You may bring your downloaded music track on a CD, flash drive or smart device, or you may e-mail your mp3 ahead of time by pre-registering at www.nationalsingingstar.com. A sound system will be provided for easy hook up. Singers are discouraged to sing a cappella, but you can sing to a musical instrument (guitar is best). Please note that no piano or accompianist will be provided.

The open call auditions will determine which singers will be invited to COMPETE. If chosen to compete, you will be given a performance slot for the PRELIMINARY competition. This will be your chance to wow both the judges and the voting crowd. Semi Finalists & Finalists spots will be determined by a combined score based on both the judges scores and the voting crowd. Each of the 3 competitions, the PRELIMINARIES, SEMI FINALS and FINALS are ticketed voting events and will be open to the public for voting purposes. Tickets to attend the competitions held at Quaker Steak and Lube Polaris and the Finale at Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center will be available in advance and at the door  Additional vote tickets can be purchased throughout the competition by attending or even online if you cannot make the competition. At each competiton, contestants are encouraged to pack the house with friends & family who can support your win by cheering & VOTING!

6. Choose your time slot. Please let us know which day and what TIME works best for you. Choose any time between 1-5pm on Sunday March 30 or Monday March 31 choose time from 3pm-8pm. Your audition will be held at The Mall At Tuttle Crossing. 

7. Confirmation Upon receiving your audition registration, we will send you confirmation of your time slot.

 

HELPFUL TIPS

1. You will have two-three minutes to sing at the open call so pick a song without a long musical intro. One verse and one chorus works best. You will sing entire song at all other levels of the competition.

2. Bring your instrumental track on a Cd, iPod, iPad, iPhone, mp3 player or flash drive, (we will provide the connection and sound system). If you pre-register, please include your track in your registration e-mail with the metered starting point of where you will begin singing.

3. If you are unable to find a suitable karaoke track to sing to, contact Debi she will be happy to find for you. 

4. You may sing to an acoustic guitar. (piano/accompanist not provided)

5. Please select singing songs, no RAP for example. All genres of music appreciated in this competition from classical to pop music, broadway, standards, radio hits, opera, sing what you sing best!!! Original music not recommended. Please pick a song that will wow audiences and Judges of all ages (remember Performing in a competition takes skill to pick the right song, Let us Help You!! Please pick songs with a G to PG rating only (only appropriate lyrics will be accepted) The Music Director Debi will have to approve your song at the Preliminaries through the Finale.

6. Pre-registration is recommended. E-mail registration will help you avoid long lines... so register now!

7. Most important have fun! This is great experience and a good way to prepare for other upcoming auditions in your future!

"WHO IS RUNNING THE SHOW??"

JULIE MATTHEWS has worked successfully as a character actress, on-camera talent, vocalist, agent, casting director, talent scout, producer, television director, acting coach, publicist and writer. Julie's latest film project, the feature film documentary, EGGSHELLAND, which she co-produced, has earned numerous awards at film festivals nationally and internationally.  Her latest writing effort is the film screenplay, SOUPERNATURAL and THE CONtest, which she is also co-producing and casting.

 

Her motion pictures casting credits include "Babe Ruth", "Hoffa", "Public Eye", "Dead and Alive", "A Christmas Story", "Major League", "The Light of Day" and "Bob Roberts", "The Year That Trembled", "Killing Ruth", and currently, "Soupernatural" and "The CONtest", both in development. Her on screen film credits include: "A Christmas Story", "Major League", "The Light of Day", and "Bob Roberts". Her commercial casting credits include Ford Motor Company, and Target.  Julie produced and hosted the local television show "Cleveland Rocks" for 6 seasons.  

 

In New York City, Julie studied acting under the famed Actors Studio. She also studied at HB Studio with the late Sandy Dennis, Charles Nelson Reily, Hal Holden and Ute Hagan.

 

As founder and director of the American Performing Arts Network, Julie developed the critically acclaimed workshop, "How To Get Into Show Business The Right Way", which was featured on numerous national and local television talk shows and newscasts, on radio and in newspapers including 60 Minutes, Sally Jesse Raphael, USA Today, New York Times, and WLUP Chicago with Danny Bonaduce. Julie was the focus of a featured segment on 60 MINUTES with The Donna Reed Show's PAUL PETERSEN, recognizing her talent and ability to coach actors and direct screen tests.

 

Julie started her singing career as the youngest member to ever be admitted into the Singing Angels. She was a vocalist for four years with the popular harmonizing quartet, Tuxedo Junction. She currently works as a studio vocalist recording back up harmonies for several recording artists. Julie currently sings with the popular 60's girl group, THE POPTARTS, who recently composed and recorded an original Christmas album. Two songs from their new record, (one sung by Julie), are currently featured in the LIFETIME movie, Love At The Christmas Table.

Born and raised in the rock and roll city of Cleveland, Ohio, DEBI LEWIN has more than 34 years of experience in show business as a professional singer, entertainer, dancer, band manager and producer. Debi's knowledge of music comes from a history of three generations of musicians. The Lewin family is recognized for their vast musical backgrounds spanning from classical and theatrical to rock and roll.

 

Debi started her career in 1980 in musical theater. Starring in such productions as "Evita," playing the notorious "Eva Peron," "Cassie" in "A Chorus Line" and also producing and performing in many Broadway reviews and One Woman Shows. Moving from genre to genre and singing in four languages makes Debi very versatile.

 

Performing in Las Vegas with Wayne Newton at the "Sand's Hotel" and on the Jerry Lewis Telethon has been one of the many highlights of Debi's career. She has also performed in Las Vegas at "Caesar's Palace," "The Aladdin," "Sahara," "Stratosphere" and "The Riviera Hotel."

 

Co-hosting the Dennis Lewin radio show in Cleveland on 1300 WERE in the late 1990's and managing and performing in "The Cover Girls" voted #1 band in Cleveland, Debi has also had the pleasure of performing with or doing background vocals for Lou Gramm, Andy Kim, Ron Dante, The Scintas, Eric Carmen, Mitch Ryder, Chris Montez, Felix Cavaliere, Maxine Nightingale, Southside Johnny, Deniece Williams, Patty Smythe, Kim Carnes, Louis Prima Jr and the beat goes on.

 

She also had the pleasure to have promoted shows for Sonny Geraci of "The Outsiders," and recently performed with Paul Shaffer and "The David Letterman Band" at "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

Debi, during the holiday season 2008, had the pleasure of performing with TV and stage and recording star "Billy Hufsey." Over the 10-year period of 1997-2007, Debi performed in Cleveland and across the country with the nationwide popular Pink Floyd tribute band, "Wish You Were Here," as well as singing background vocals, both recorded and live, for "Beau Coup" and Michael Stanley.

Currently Debi shares the spotlight with fellow vocalist Jennifer Lee in "DIVA" and also performs with her very talented brother, Dennis Lewin.  Debi Lewin's CD "A Woman of Standards" is aired on radio station 91.5 in Cleveland.
